TCR-1 is our most effective heavy oil stimulation fluid.
TCR-1 was developed as a joint venture between Rocanda Enterprises Ltd. and Trican Well Service Ltd. The workover/stimulation fluid represents "state of the art" development on how to deal with asphaltene deposition and other related formation problems in down-hole applications.
It has been noted that TCR-1 is a highly effective treatment for increasing production from heavy oil wells that exhibits several of the following characteristics:
- Good geological parameters
- High reserves left in place with low production from the immediate area
- Historical sanding problems
- Good reservoir pressure
- High offset production
- Drilled using polysaccharide drilling muds
In addition a good candidate should also demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Fluctuating fluid levels throughout production history
- Positive response to loading programs
- Good fluid levels in offset wells that are producing from the same formation
- A sudden decline in production that cannot be attributed to reservoir depletion
- Highly viscous oil with a high asphaltene content
- A well that was previously subjected to a loading program, workovers using solvents or blend or stimulation using acid or solvents
Through recent testing it has been found that the TCR-1 chemical is significantly more effective when used in conjunction with perforation agitation. The most cost effective and potent TCR-1 program involves the following:
- TCR-1 is added to the well at a rate of 1m3 per meter of perforation interval (a selective tool is not required if perforation agitation is to take place)
- TCR-1 is over displaced into the formation using untreated oil or water
- The chemical is allowed to soak for 5 days
- The perforation intervals are agitated via the use of pulsating tool or some other means
- The well is put back on production
The above program is even more cost effective if the well has been identified for a workover. In this case the shut in time does not equate to lost production and the service rig costs are required anyway.
TCR-1 is a specially formulated blend of organic solvents, penetrants, and dispersants for prevention and dissolution of asphaltene and paraffin deposits. TCR-1 is used for a variety of applications where these troublesome deposits cause plugging and reduced production. This multifunctional product provides superior deposit and sludge control compared to treatment programs using only solvents. It is most effective in areas where asphaltene precipitation is a problem and provides long-lasting results. The product performs especially well in heavy oil with a high asphaltene content.
Advantages:
- Resuspends asphaltenes by mimicking the natural resins of heavy oil
- Breaks water in oil emulsions and water blocks by reducing the interfacial tension that exists between the oil and water phases
- Coats sand and clay solids and leaves the particles water wet
- Reduces damage induced by polymer drilling fluids
- Much higher flash point than alternative fluids
- Significantly reduces oil viscosity and prevents sludging
- Reduces operating costs by reducing the frequency of washes or stimulation
- A very effective penetrating and dispersing agent
